How it works

Your discovery dive, step by step

We pick the date and region together and pass your request to a partner centre; the centre reserves your spot. Here's what your day looks like.

Already certified? This page is for first-time divers. If you're certified, your program is the day trip with 2 dives a day. See the 2-dives-a-day program →
  1. Meeting up

You meet in the morning at the meeting point of the centre we've matched you with; we send the exact time and place once the centre confirms your booking. The day starts with a quick hello and a short medical form.

  2. Briefing & gear-up

The centre's instructor explains the equipment and the hand signals you'll use underwater, and answers every question.

  3. By boat to a sheltered bay

The partner centre's boat takes you to a sheltered bay. You practise breathing at standing depth first; no rush, and nobody moves on before feeling ready.

  4. The dive: one-to-one

Your instructor stays within arm's reach at all times. Fish, reef, and that first 'I'm flying' feeling.

  5. Heading back

After the dive: swimming and boat time, then back to the harbour. The centre sets the day's flow; we send you the program upfront.

Discovery Dive FAQ

Good to know

How long does a discovery dive take?
You usually spend 20-25 minutes underwater; with the briefing and boat, set aside about half a day. Details vary by centre and program, and we confirm them with the centre upfront.
I can't swim. Can I still dive?
Yes. Swimming skills aren't required for a discovery dive; your instructor stays with you one-to-one at all times. Being comfortable in the water is enough.
How deep do we go?
After practising in shallow water, you descend to a safe depth within discovery-dive standards, as judged by the instructor. Depth is not the goal; your comfort and safety come first.
I wear glasses or contact lenses. Is that a problem?
You can dive with soft contact lenses. Glasses don't fit under the mask; if your prescription is strong, tell us in advance and we'll check options with the centre.
What should I bring?
Just your swimsuit, a towel and sunscreen. All dive equipment, the boat and the instructor are included in every program we arrange.
What if I panic underwater?
Your instructor is always within arm's reach and you communicate with simple hand signals. You can end the dive at any moment; the centres we work with never push a guest who doesn't feel ready.
Are photos or videos taken?
At most centres your first dive can be captured on photo and video for an extra fee; we'll check current terms with the centre and let you know.
Does a discovery dive count toward a course?
A discovery dive isn't a certification program; its purpose is a safe first taste. If you want to continue, we'll map out your path in SSI, PADI or CMAS and set up your course at the right centre.
